How To Uninstall emacs23 On Debian 7

To uninstall emacs23 just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just emacs23

The GNU Emacs editor (with GTK+ user interface)Debian 7.0editors23.4+1-4
sudo apt-get remove emacs23

This will remove just the emacs23 package itself.

Uninstall emacs23 and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove emacs23

This will remove the emacs23 package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for emacs23 then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge emacs23

Or similarly, like this emacs23

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove emacs23
