How To Uninstall gcc-4.7 on trusty

To uninstall gcc-4.7 just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just gcc-4.7

GNU C compiler Ubuntu 14.04 LTS devel 4.7.3-12ubuntu1

sudo apt-get remove gcc-4.7

Which will remove just the gcc-4.7 package itself.

Uninstall gcc-4.7 and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove gcc-4.7

This will remove the gcc-4.7 package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for gcc-4.7 then this will work.

  Caution!   Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge gcc-4.7  

Or similarly, like this gcc-4.7

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove gcc-4.7
