How To Uninstall update-notifier-common On Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

To uninstall update-notifier-common just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just update-notifier-common

Files shared between update-notifier and other packagesUbuntu 14.04 LTSgnome0.154.1
sudo apt-get remove update-notifier-common

This will remove just the update-notifier-common package itself.

Uninstall update-notifier-common and its dependencies

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove update-notifier-common

This will remove the update-notifier-common package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.

Purging your config/data too

If you also want to delete your local/config files for update-notifier-common then this will work.

 Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge update-notifier-common

Or similarly, like this update-notifier-common

sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove update-notifier-common
