How To Uninstall fonts-dejavu-core On Ubuntu 16.04 LTS
To uninstall fonts-dejavu-core just follow these instructions.

Uninstall just fonts-dejavu-core

This will remove just the fonts-dejavu-core package itself.
Uninstall fonts-dejavu-core and its dependencies
sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove fonts-dejavu-core
This will remove the fonts-dejavu-core package and any other dependant packages which are no longer needed.
Purging your config/data too
If you also want to delete your local/config files for fonts-dejavu-core then this will work.
Caution! Purged config/data can not be restored by reinstalling the package.
sudo apt-get purge fonts-dejavu-core
Or similarly, like this fonts-dejavu-core
sudo apt-get purge --auto-remove fonts-dejavu-core
